RE: AFTER MARKET ROTORS

Slotting or dimpling (do not drill) will do little to help. What can help is cyrogenic treating, and then truing the rotors (if needed) before install. But I'll tell you a little secret. Back when I raced cars, we didn't have the money for Cryo treated rotors. Even when treated our pads would eat them up in a pair of weekends. We found that putting them in a self cleaning oven and running though a cleaning cycle helped for wear, cracking and warping. A metallurgist explained it like this: One of the problems that brake rotors have is they get very hot. When they get hot the molocules of the metal have a tenancy to rearrange themselves. They stay in that new arrangement until they are heated beyond that level, at which time they do it again. A self cleaning oven gets to about 900degrees, much hotter than most of us are ever going to see. A couple of notes. This will stink up your house, make sure you have windows open and people are outside for the day (including pets). The rotors are coated in stuff that burns off when you do this, not a fire danger, but really stinky. Second. This can have a tendency to bend your oven rack, especially if done over time. My suggestion is buy the best American or German made rotors you can find, bake them, and use them with a very good organic pad (if you haven't had brake fade issues). A semi-metallic pad will eat up the rotor faster, and isn't needed if you don't typically have pad fade problems.

RE: VCR's after Feb, 09

DVD's, especially self burned ones, do seem to get scratched up pretty easily. Just putting them in and out of the machine a few dozen times (like my kids Lion King copy) just trashes them. I've taken to making copies of DVD's and only allowing the copies to be played, When they are too trashed, I make a new one from my original. CD's are less of an issue. I have an electronic copy of all of them on my and my wifes MP3 players..

RE: Digital Converter FYI

The wineguard box is available at Target (in my area) for $49, its just not branded as Wineguard. BTW, its ok but not spectacular. http://www.target.com/Venturer-Digital-Converter-Box/dp/B001A0TMI0/sr=1-5/qid=1223312668/ref=sr_1_5/602-9296336-0155822?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Adtv&page=1

RE: VCR's after Feb, 09

The Echostar DTV Pal has an event timer so that it can tune to the station on a schedule. It is the best solution, but does mean you need to program both your VCR (to record channel 3 or 4 or the video in) and you need to program the DTVpal to swtich to a specific channel at a specific time. http://www.dtvpal.com/

RE: toe in is that for both tires or one?

Not necessarilly so. On most automobiles, you can have a total toe of 1/4", but that is a combined measurement of both sides. The left toe could be 1/16" and the right toe could be 3/16"; that still adds up to a total toe of 1/4". Your steering wheel would be off center, though. If you have both wheels pointed as straight ahead as they go the toe will be equal. The steering wheel shouldn't enter into the equation.

RE: Electric space heater

We are looking at getting a small (24 inch) electric baseboard heater with thermostat for the bunk room where the kids sleep. I figure that would be much safer for them then anything freestanding. In the bedroom I typically just use an electric blanket. In the living area of the coach I have a Holems heater with a fan, just to keep it decent for morning. Here in North Florida it doesn't usually get that cold although we could get a night or two in the 20's.

RE: Any African American Families camping/Rving in Georgia?

At the campground we live at we've have had several family's of color (is that the new PC term, I can't keep this PC******straight). I don't know if its because of FAMU, or if it just is. I do know that I don't care what color your skin is. And most campgrounds only care what color your money is.

RE: Kids, seat belts, and Class A's. What's your opinion?

Its a law children under 5 have to be in a car seat in allmost all states. I've not been in a state yet that requires car seats in: Busses Taxi's And few require them in RV's (which are not cars). Regardless of the law (lets say your state doesn't ever require car seats) keeping kids properly strapped in is a good idea.

Don't most electrical professionals (like lineman) assume every line is hot and behave accordingly? I'm an armature and do.

I don't know of anyone in florida who cares where you are from. Florida is a very no frills state.

RE: Cool weather and Pressure adjustments

Keep pumping the pressure up. Generally I've noticed about 10 degrees equals 1 psi, on my tires (using our moist florida air). Figure out what yours generally need and you should be able to get it close. Overfilling by 5 psi is much less damaging than underfilling by 5 psi, and its easier to correct. NEVER check tires hot, only first thing in the AM before the sun gets to them.

RE: Laptop choices

I'm quite happy with My ACER. Like most consumer grade laptops (IE inexpensive) I had to spend a few hours removing******I didn't want (Norton AV, MS works, etc), but when done it works pretty well. If I had a few dollars more I would probably buy Vostro small business grade laptop from dell's scratch and dent store (www.delloutlet.com). Business laptops tend to not come with tons of useless stuff on them. But they also tend to not have all the latest features (my ACER has BluRay DVD, 17" wide screen, DVI output, built in video camera, etc.).

RE: Concerned about fuel

In times of instability make sure you get gas well before you need it. If you can go 100miles on your remaining tank, make sure you start looking HARD at 100miles.

RE: Drinking water filters

Interestingly, I can find no information about nature pure on EPA.GOV. I can't even find anything about the EPA Microbiological Purification Standards. NSF is the agency generally charged with testing and qualifying filters. Perhaps you have already seen this, but I would suggest you start with their primer. http://www.nsf.com/consumer/drinking_water/dw_treatment.asp?program=WaterTre Also, try inputing the following into google: "general ecology" water purifier site:epa.gov Three hits, none talking about the devices you are looking at (first need deluxe), mostly related to removing dissolved toxins and cyanobacterial cells. Anyway I'm not saying these things are bad, its just strange that I don't find much data published in America on these devices other than what the manufacture puts forth.

RE: 10% ethenol

Um, you cant run ethanol leaner then fuel the ratio to air in which it burns is aproximatly 7:1 standard gasoline with zero burns aproximatly 14:1 Thats double the amount of air for gasoline, so how can you possibly burn less? more power = more fuel cannot lean or you will make bad things happen internally winter time temps require more fuel because of denser cooler air so that is why your car feels more powerfull in the cooler temps, but you are burning more fuel. The energy has to come from somewhare and its not oxygen You can actually run leaner with a bit of alcohol than with gasoline. The cooling effect of the alcohol tends to cool hot spots in the combustion chamber) ergo resiting detonation. BTW at light loads (crusing)14 or 15 to 1 air/fuel ratio isn't uncommon. 12 or 13 to 1 is the general ratio under load, although the 11's are uncommon.

RE: 10% ethenol

Just because ethanol has less BTU's does not mean you will get less mileage than a fuel with zero ethanol. In your average engine you get about 25% to 30% efficiency. So less BTU's doesn't mean anything if you increase the efficiency. Ethanol has a tendency to clean engines, a tendency to reduce ping (allowing a computer controlled engine to advance spark (more power) or lean mixture (more efficient), and a tendency to reduce intake tract temperature, allowing more oxygen into the engine. In florida many stations have stickers saying upto 10% ethanol. But you never really know how much you are getting. Personally I think its a wash in vehicles.

RE: Water Wetter

Water wetter works great. But it works best with straight distilled water. I don't belive it is nearly as effective with antifreeze in your system.
